09 Aug Thinking ahead to MWC 2020
There are only 200 days left until Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020. OK, we have got the rest of the summer, the autumn, Christmas and New Year to contend with before this event but I am off to Barcelona shortly to plan for several clients that are attending next year. August is not too early to plan.
Own the town
The first year that Mobile World Congress moved to Barcelona, one company bought all the advertising and marketing collateral in the city. The thinking was: “go big or go home”. Most companies associated with the mobile ecosystem will be at the event in some format. Many will claim it is the most important week of the year. If that is true, companies should be thinking about this event now.
What to announce
Many businesses position their news agenda around Mobile World Congress, saving announcements for the week of the show or bringing products forward to showcase in advance of launch. I have written before about the potential perils of launching products at MWC. Stories with enough clout can cut through the noise, but now is the time of year to be looking for a unique event venue or one-off stunt. If you leave it until September, you will be too late.
100 days to go
16th November will mark 100 days before the show. We will run a masterclass around that time for companies looking to maximise their presence, based on 20 years of helping our clients get the best from media at the event. We have conducted hundreds of media interviews and had dozens of clients showcased on the BBC, CNBC, CNN, Sky News and in national newspapers around the world.
