25 Jun Small team, big vision
Launching a software company with just £10 in his pocket, Paul Moorby OBE had grown his Wiltshire-based digital solutions company, Chipside, to a team of more than 50 people – earning a Queen’s Award in 2019 and being awarded an OBE himself for “services to UK innovation abroad.”
Since 2003, Chipside had established itself as an innovative and trusted provider of digital parking and permitting solutions to more than half of UK local authorities. However, Paul wanted to increase his market share and compete against the bigger names in the industry and needed PR support to raise the company’s profile.
XL was selected through recommendation as Chipside’s exclusive PR consultancy in 2019 to help him achieve this goal.
A crowded market
The challenge for Chipside was that the market was saturated with big companies that had much deeper pockets, bigger marketing budgets and more staff resources, with competitors such as RingGo or PayByPhone dominating the field. But the differentiator for Chipside was its loyal customer base of local authorities.
As a passionate advocate of UK technology and innovation, Paul had promoted Chipside and UK capabilities in Europe, the Americas and Asia. XL wanted to put the CEO at the forefront of the PR campaign and establish him as a thought leader through feature articles, interviews and speaking opportunities at events.
XL secured frequent media coverage for Chipside across national, local and government publications, including ITV News, Swindon Advertiser, Government and Public Sector Journal and Parking Review.
As part of a wider marketing reshape, XL designed and created marketing collateral for the company including marketing brochures, staff profiles, case studies to bring in new clients and generate more revenue.
XL helped to raise the company’s profile through multiple award wins, including a Queen’s Award in 2019 for Enterprise: Innovation, and a Global ICT Excellence Award. Chipside was also a finalist for Technology Business of the Year at the British Business Awards and was recently nominated as a finalist for the Digital Experience Award for Digital Change and Transformation.
