A warm welcome from XL

Stepping out of lockdown and into a new role in the field of tech PR has been an exciting experience. Having previously worked a year in a consumer and lifestyle agency, largely from the comfort of my own living room, I felt like something was missing. It was time to face a new challenge and broaden my knowledge, so here I am delving into the thought-provoking, ever-evolving world of tech!

On my first day I was warmly welcomed with coffee and smiles from the XL team who have showered me with support and encouragement from the get-go. Being in an office environment has been a breath of fresh air and has made my first week a fun learning experience. Although lockdown and remote working was challenging, it has made me appreciate the importance of face-to-face communication when starting a new chapter, acquiring new skills, and in the workplace overall.

Within my first week, I have started to build a solid foundation of knowledge about the tech industry covering a wide scope of topics and trends, from smartphones and pocket computers to fintech software and wearable medical devices. Having such variety between clients is an exciting prospect and I am eager to get going!

Not only am I exploring a new media landscape, but I am also discovering new ways of pitching and building media relations; instead of solely selling-in products for features and reviews, I am learning how to pitch stories and thought leadership – a side of PR I never really knew existed. The opportunities I have been exposed to at an early stage have really made me feel part of the team already, and I feel trusted to make my own decisions and share my views.

Other than sharing their knowledge and experiences of PR and socials, the team brings a fun and friendly vibe to the office. Whether we are discussing our favourite season of Love Island cast or how awful Southampton FC’s performance was at the weekend, there is never a dull conversation between the team.

Office banter aside, I cannot wait to kickstart what I hope will be a long and fulfilling career here at XL.
