XL Communications was founded in 2007, by director and principal consultant Chris Bignell, to provide public relations and marketing communications support to clients in the technology, mobile communications and digital media arenas.
Before launching XL Communications, Chris headed up Communications and Public Affairs for Motorola in the UK and Ireland where he was responsible for communicating Motorola's vision and strategy to key audiences including the media, UK and Ireland Governments and internal audiences.
Prior to this, Chris was Head of Marketing Communications for Toshiba Mobile.
Chris directed all marketing for Toshiba's drive into the mobile device market, from its launch in 2002 through to his departure in 2006. During this time, Chris was responsible for PR strategy and marketing communications. Chris developed a strategy that propelled Toshiba into the mobile handset market in Europe.
Chris went on to develop innovative marketing campaigns to support a series of 2.5G and 3G mobile phones across Europe. This included becoming the first company to develop a commercial partnership with rock legends Oasis. Oasis became the first band to feature exclusive content on a mobile phone through the partnership with Toshiba developed by Chris.
Prior to his in house roles, Chris was a PR consultant, advising companies across different technology disciplines, including Intel, Kodak, Logica, Motorola and Eicon Networks.
Chris contributes regularly to a number of publications on the impact of mobile communications technology on business and consumers.
